The IWC Pilot’s Chronograph Ceramic reference 3705, released in the mid-1990s, is a cult classic that was far ahead of its time. As one of the very first wristwatches to feature a case made from black zirconium oxide ceramic, the 3705 was a bold and innovative departure from traditional stainless steel tool watches. Its stealthy matte finish not only offered superior scratch resistance but also gave the watch a distinct tactical presence that perfectly complemented its pilot’s watch DNA. Powered by the robust Valjoux 7750-based IWC caliber 7922, the 3705 combined reliability with a clean, legible dial layout featuring bold Arabic numerals, day-date function, and tri-compax chronograph subdials. Initially met with lukewarm commercial reception, only 999 examples + 1 prototype were produced, making it a true sleeper hit in the collecting world. Today, the 3705 is celebrated as a visionary piece—an under appreciated icon that anticipated the modern era of ceramic sports watches.
