1977 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Explorer II «Steve Mc Queen» 1655

SOLD OUT

A very good condition 1977 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Explorer II aka “Steve Mc Queen” reference 1655 Mk4 with an excellent black matte dial and nice light patina and matching hands. This watch bears the nickname “Steve Mc Queen” although he has never been seen wearing it.

The Rolex Explorer II reference 1655, often nicknamed the "Steve McQueen," is an iconic timepiece introduced in 1971 and designed specifically for spelunkers and cave explorers. Featuring a bold 40mm stainless steel case, a fixed 24-hour bezel, and an unmistakable bright orange 24-hour hand, the watch was built for adventurers navigating dark environments. Unlike traditional GMT watches, the 1655’s 24-hour hand was meant to differentiate between day and night rather than track a second time zone. Despite its legendary status, there is no known evidence that Steve McQueen ever wore the watch, making the nickname more of a collector's myth. Today, the 1655 remains a highly coveted vintage Rolex due to its distinctive design, limited production, and connection to an era of exploration.

All our watches are thoroughly inspected by our expert watchmaker and come with a 3 months guarantee. However, since this particular piece has been fully serviced, it includes a 1-year mechanical guarantee.
